In 1930 George Nadaff founded his chain of chicken restaurants in Boston. Starting with very little, he overcame many difficulties and managed to succeed with the business.
The original Boston Market was a huge success. At that time it was mainly popular with females looking for a healthier alternative to the fried chicken that was popular at the time. Boston Market was so popular no other chicken business could compete and George Nadaff decided a franchise model would be a success – and he was right!
The company made $42 million dollars selling 200 franchises. Business was booming and in 1993 the company went public, being the highest IPO in the history of Wall Street at that time.
